Hey sweet friend,Does your brain ever feel like a cluttered desktop full of open tabs, unread notifications, and forgotten to-dos? 😩
Been there. Lived there. Packed snacks.
Sometimes, we just need to empty it all out. Not perfectly. Not organized. Just out.
That’s where a Brain Dump Day comes in. It’s one of the simplest and most powerful habits I’ve added to my creative + business routine—and I promise, it’ll change the way your week feels.
💡 What Is a Brain Dump?
A brain dump is exactly what it sounds like:You sit down and write out everything swirling around in your head.
No categories. No pressure. No right or wrong. Just release.
Think of it like a mental reset button—clearing space so you can think clearly, breathe deeper, and plan with purpose instead of panic.
🚨 Signs You Might Need a Brain Dump Day
You can’t fall asleep because you’re thinking of 17 things you forgot to do
You’re multitasking so hard, nothing’s actually getting finished
You feel mentally foggy or emotionally scattered
You have a running to-do list... in your brain… that changes hourly 🙃
Yep. You need a brain dump. And you’re gonna love it.
📝 How to Do a Brain Dump (The Right Way)
There’s no one “correct” method—but here’s what works beautifully for me:
1. Set a Time + Create Space
Choose a moment in your day when you won’t be interrupted. Light a candle, grab a cozy drink, and open your journal or planner.
I love using a printable worksheet for this (you can grab mine free below or from my shop!).
2. Write It All Down
Let it spill.Tasks, worries, reminders, ideas, feelings. Business stuff. Home stuff. Little stuff. Big dreams.
Don’t filter. Don’t organize. Just write.
Here’s what might come out:
“Email Katie about Canva templates”
“Figure out what’s for dinner tomorrow”
“Create new product listing for digital stickers”
“Need a nap”
“Look into homeschool art project ideas”
“Feeling overwhelmed—need a breather”
No judgment. No editing. Just clearing space.
3. Sort + Simplify
Once everything’s out, then you can sort:
What’s urgent?
What can wait?
What can I delegate or delete?
What needs to go on my calendar or to-do list?
Color code it. Highlight it. Turn it into action steps. Or let it sit overnight. You choose.
4. Repeat Weekly or Monthly
Make it a habit—like every Sunday night, or the first of each month. Your brain will thank you.
