How to Save and Organize Your Favorite Canva Templates

If you’re like me, you’ve probably spent hours scrolling through Canva, finding the perfect template for your project—and then, weeks later, completely forgetting where you saved it. Don’t worry, you’re not alone! With so many amazing designs at our fingertips, it’s easy to lose track. But here’s the good news: Canva has built-in tools that make it simple to save, organize, and revisit your favorite templates anytime.
Let’s walk through some easy steps to keep your Canva workspace clutter-free and organized like a pro.
Step 1: Use the “Star” Feature
When you come across a template you love but aren’t ready to use yet, click the star icon in the corner. This adds it to your Favorites folder. Think of it like bookmarking in Canva—you’ll always know where to find it later.
✨ Pro Tip: Use this for inspiration boards! Save fonts, layouts, and template styles you might want to reference in the future.
Step 2: Create Folders for Projects
Canva lets you create custom folders in your library. This is where the magic of organization happens. You can set up folders like:
Work Projects
Scrapbooking Templates
Social Media Graphics
Journaling Pages
Teaching Resources
By separating your templates into folders, you’ll never have to dig through a cluttered library again.
Step 3: Name Your Files Clearly
We’ve all been guilty of saving something as “Untitled Design (17).” Instead, take 10 seconds to name your template with a descriptive title. For example:
“Weekly Planner – Floral Design”
“Scrapbook Page – Summer Memories”
“Bible Study Notes Template”
Clear titles save you so much time when you’re searching later.
Step 4: Take Advantage of Template Copies
Here’s a Canva hack: When you find a template you want to customize, make a copy before editing. That way, you can go back to the original anytime you need it. Think of it as keeping a master version tucked away for safekeeping.
Step 5: Sync with Your Creative Fabrica Finds
If you love design assets as much as I do, you’re probably always on the hunt for beautiful fonts, graphics, and patterns. That’s why I also use Creative Fabrica for unique elements that I can easily add to my Canva templates. Pairing Canva’s organization tools with Creative Fabrica’s resources means my projects stay fresh, creative, and easy to manage.
Step 6: Regularly Declutter
Just like your physical desk, your Canva workspace can get messy over time. Set a reminder once a month to go through your designs, delete anything you no longer need, and reorganize your folders. A tidy Canva is a happy Canva!
