How to Organize Your Digital Scrapbook Kits

If you’re like me, you probably have hundreds of digital scrapbook kits tucked away on your computer. From paper packs to embellishments, stickers, and clip art—your collection grows quickly! But here’s the catch: when everything is scattered in random folders, it’s almost impossible to find what you need when inspiration strikes.
That’s why today, I want to share how to organize your digital scrapbook kits in a way that’s both practical and inspiring. With just a little setup, you’ll save time, reduce frustration, and actually use those beautiful designs you’ve collected.
Why Organization Matters for Digital Scrapbooking
Digital scrapbooking is supposed to be fun and creative, not stressful. But when your files are messy, it can feel overwhelming. An organized system will:
Save Time – Find the perfect paper or embellishment in seconds.
Spark Creativity – Browsing neatly sorted kits makes it easier to see what inspires you.
Prevent Duplicates – No more accidentally buying the same kit twice.
Protect Your Investment – Keep your purchased kits safe and easy to back up.
Step 1: Create a Master Scrapbook Folder
Start by making one main folder labeled something like Digital Scrapbooking. Inside, create subfolders for categories such as:
Papers
Embellishments
Stickers & Word Art
Themes (e.g., Christmas, Summer, Vintage, Travel)
Kits by Designer (if you buy from multiple shops, this is especially helpful)
Keeping everything under one master folder makes it easy to back up your entire collection onto an external drive or cloud storage.
Step 2: Rename and Tag Your Files
Most kits come with file names like paper_01.jpg or element_002.png. While that works for the creator, it doesn’t help you much later. Take a little time to rename your files so they’re easy to identify, or use your computer’s tagging system.
For example:
Instead of “paper_01.jpg,” rename it “Floral_Blue_Vintage.jpg.”
Use tags like “fall,” “watercolor,” or “scripture” so you can search by theme.
Step 3: Use Preview Images for Quick Browsing
Many digital kits include a preview image that shows everything in the set. Save this preview in the same folder as the kit so you can quickly see what’s inside without opening every file. If a kit doesn’t come with a preview, create your own collage in Canva—it’s worth it for easy browsing later.
Step 4: Back Up Regularly
Nothing is worse than losing your digital scrapbook collection! Make sure to back up your kits on:
An external hard drive
A cloud storage service (Google Drive, Dropbox, etc.)
Or both (double protection!)
Think of it as safeguarding your creative treasure chest.
Step 5: Keep a “Favorites” Folder
When you find yourself using certain kits over and over, create a “Favorites” folder and drop copies of those elements inside. That way, your go-to papers, stickers, and embellishments are always at your fingertips.
