Whether it's a birthday bash, baby shower, holiday cheer, or a simple "thinking of you," there’s nothing quite like a greeting card that’s handmade — even digitally! Designing your own cards in Canva is not only fun and easy, but it also gives your message a personal touch that store-bought cards just can’t match.
And guess what? You don’t have to be a designer to create something beautiful. Today, I’m going to walk you through a simple, exciting process for designing your own greeting cards in Canva — using drag-and-drop tools, gorgeous graphics, and even a few of my exclusive paper designs and embellishments available in my Etsy shop!
Let’s get into it!
✨ Step 1: Choose Your Occasion
Start by deciding what kind of card you're making. Canva has templates for:
Birthdays
Thank You cards
Baby Showers
Weddings
Holidays (Christmas, Easter, 4th of July & more!)
Sympathy and encouragement
"Just Because" notes
This helps you narrow down colors, graphics, and tone. Once you know your theme, it’s time to jump into Canva.
🎨 Step 2: Pick a Greeting Card Template in Canva
Head to Canva.com and search “Greeting Card” in the template search bar. You’ll see hundreds of gorgeous starting points! Choose one that feels right for your occasion — or start from scratch if you’re feeling bold.
Pro Tip: If you’re using my digital scrapbook paper or embellishments, start with a blank card and let your creativity fly.

📥 Step 3: Upload Your Paper & Embellishments
If you’ve grabbed one of my digital paper packs or cute embellishments from my Etsy store, upload them into Canva:
Open your Canva design
Click "Uploads" on the left sidebar
Drag and drop your paper or clipart into Canva
Use these elements to create borders, backgrounds, or accents. Layer florals, washi tape strips, or vintage corners for that handmade scrapbook feel.

💌 Step 4: Add Your Greeting and Personal Touch
Click on Text and choose from Canva’s font pairings or try a classic combo like:
Playlist Script + Open Sans for a friendly handwritten look
Cinzel + Lora for something more elegant
Anton + Montserrat for bold, graphic impact
Then, write your message! Keep it short and sweet — even something as simple as:
“You Make My Days Brighter”
“Wishing You Sunshine and Smiles”
“Just Because You’re Wonderful”
You can also add your own photo or a digital signature!

🖨️ Step 5: Print or Send It Digitally
Canva allows you to download your card as a PDF for printing or a PNG for digital sending. You can:
Print at home on cardstock
Use Canva's professional print service
Send it via email or even as a digital attachment with a gift
