đŒ Because in a sea of content, your visuals need to shout âclick me!â
Letâs be real â you can write the most insightful, well-crafted blog post in the world⊠but if your graphic doesnât grab attention, it might never get the clicks it deserves.
Your blog graphics are the first impression your post makes on Pinterest, Facebook, Instagram, or even your own homepage. Done right, theyâll not only stop people mid-scroll but also make them curious enough to click through and read every word.
Today, Iâm sharing my step-by-step process for creating blog graphics in Canva that do exactly that.
âïž Step 1: Start with a Strong Headline
Your headline is the heart of your graphic. Instead of copying your blog title word-for-word, try rephrasing it to be more curiosity-driven or benefits-focused.
Example:
Blog Title â âHow to Organize Your Scrapbooking Suppliesâ
Graphic Headline â âThe Scrapbooking Storage System That Changed My Lifeâ
Shorter, bolder phrases often work better on visuals because theyâre easier to read quickly.
đš Step 2: Pick the Right Size for Each Platform
Different platforms = different dimensions.
Pinterest â 1000 x 1500 px (vertical)
Facebook/Instagram â 1080 x 1080 px (square)
Blog Post Header â 1200 x 628 px (horizontal)
Canva makes this easy with its built-in size templates â just search the platform name when starting your design.
đŒ Step 3: Use High-Impact Imagery
Your background image should instantly relate to your content. Options include:
Photos youâve taken yourself
Canvaâs free or premium stock images
Flat-lay or mockup images that you customize
Tip: Make sure your image isnât too busy. If needed, use Canvaâs blur tool or add a semi-transparent overlay so your text pops.
đ Step 4: Play with Fonts & Hierarchy
Fonts should be bold, easy to read, and consistent with your brand. For example:
One bold display font for the main headline
One clean sans-serif font for subtext
Always make your most important words the largest, so they stand out even at a glance.
đ Step 5: Add Branding Without Overcrowding
Your blog graphics should be instantly recognizable. Add:
Your brand colors
Your website URL
A small logo or watermark
Keep it subtle so it doesnât overpower the design, but consistent enough that viewers start to associate your style with your brand.
đ Step 6: Test Variations
Hereâs a secret: you can make 2â3 versions of the same blog graphic and post them at different times. Sometimes a small change in colors, fonts, or images can double your clicks.
