How I Plan My Content Each Month with Canva ✨

Planning content might sound overwhelming at first—social media posts, blog articles, newsletters, freebies, product launches… whew! But here’s the secret: you don’t have to juggle it all in your head. Canva has become my secret weapon for organizing and creating content in a way that’s not only productive but actually fun.
Today, I’m pulling back the curtain and showing you exactly how I plan my content each month using Canva. Whether you’re a blogger, small business owner, or creator who just wants to get consistent, these steps will help you feel organized and inspired.
🗓 Step 1: Start with a Monthly Overview
The first thing I do? Open Canva and create a monthly content calendar template. Canva has loads of planner templates, so I’ll usually pick one that feels clean and spacious. Then, I label it with the month, add the dates, and get to work filling in:
Blog post titles
Social media themes
Email topics
Product or Etsy promotions
This is my bird’s-eye view—so I know what’s coming up before diving into the nitty-gritty.
🎨 Step 2: Color-Coding for Sanity
Canva makes color-coding super easy. I assign colors to each type of content:
Pink = Blog posts
Yellow = Instagram/TikTok content
Blue = Email newsletters
Green = Etsy promotions
That way, I can tell at a glance if I’m being consistent across platforms or if one channel is getting a little neglected.
📝 Step 3: Batch Brainstorming
Instead of scrambling for ideas each week, I set aside time at the start of the month to brainstorm. Canva’s templates are great here too—I’ll open a mind map or list-style planner page and jot down all my blog post ideas, social content, and freebies.
The key? Don’t edit yourself while brainstorming. Just pour out ideas and refine later.
🖼 Step 4: Create Templates Once, Reuse Forever
This is where Canva really saves me time. I design templates for:
Blog post graphics
Pinterest pins
Instagram carousels
Email headers
Once those are set, I just duplicate, swap in new text/images, and I’m good to go. Planning in Canva means my brand stays cohesive without reinventing the wheel each month.
⏰ Step 5: Schedule + Stay Flexible
After my plan is mapped out, I use my Canva calendar to export posts into my scheduler (or just save them to folders if I’m posting manually). The beauty is that even though I plan everything in advance, Canva makes it easy to shuffle things around if something timely pops up.
✨ Pro Tip: Theme Your Months
Sometimes I’ll choose a monthly “theme” (like gratitude in November or cozy vibes in January). That helps tie everything together—blog posts, products, social posts, freebies—into one cohesive story. Canva makes it so easy to design around those themes with matching fonts, colors, and graphics.
