4 Canva Fonts You're Sleeping On

You know that moment when you open Canva and default to the same three fonts you always use? We've all been there. But here's the thing: Canva has thousands of fonts, and some absolute gems are hiding in plain sight.

Today I'm sharing four underrated fonts that deserve way more love than they're getting. These aren't your trendy-but-overused picks. They're the workhorses that make your designs look polished without trying too hard.

1. Literata

If you're creating anything text-heavy (think blog graphics, quote cards, or educational carousels), Literata is about to become your best friend. It's a serif font that was actually designed for screen reading, which means it's incredibly easy on the eyes.

Why it works: Unlike some serif fonts that can feel stuffy or old-fashioned, Literata strikes the perfect balance between classic and modern. It has just enough personality to feel warm, but it's clean enough to work for professional content.

Best for: Long-form text, quote graphics, carousel posts, anything where readability is key

2. DM Sans

Yes, everyone's talking about the DM font family lately, but DM Sans still doesn't get the attention it deserves. It's a sans-serif that somehow manages to be both minimal and friendly at the same time.

Why it works: DM Sans has these subtle rounded edges that give it warmth without being overly playful. It pairs beautifully with almost any display font, and it looks clean at any size. Plus, it has excellent letter spacing, so you don't have to fiddle with kerning constantly.

Best for: Body text, captions, minimalist designs, professional branding

3. Newsreader

This is the font for when you want to look effortlessly elegant. Newsreader is a serif with a slightly editorial feel—think magazine layouts and sophisticated blog headers.

Why it works: It has these beautiful italic variations that add so much movement to your designs. The regular weight is perfect for headers, while the lighter weights work wonderfully for subheadings. It gives instant credibility and polish to whatever you're creating.

Best for: Blog headers, Pinterest pins, editorial-style layouts, anything that needs a touch of sophistication

4. Manrope

If you're tired of the usual geometric sans-serifs but still want something modern and clean, meet Manrope. It's got a slightly quirky personality without being distracting.

Why it works: Manrope has these unique letter shapes (check out the lowercase 'a' and 'g') that add character without sacrificing readability. It works equally well for headlines and body text, and it has a complete range of weights so you can create hierarchy easily.

Best for: Modern designs, tech or creative branding, Instagram graphics, versatile everyday use

Quick Pairing Tips

The beauty of these fonts? They all play well with others. Try:

  • Literata + DM Sans for a classic, editorial look

  • Newsreader + Manrope for sophisticated modern vibes

  • DM Sans + Literata for clean, readable carousels

  • Manrope + Newsreader when you want a little edge with your elegance

🌟 Final Thoughts

You don't need to constantly chase the newest trendy fonts. Sometimes the best design choices are the ones that fade into the background and let your message shine. These four fonts do exactly that—they're reliable, versatile, and quietly excellent.

Next time you're in Canva, give one of these a try. Your designs (and your audience's eyes) will thank you.
